Hull City Council is set to receive almost £700,000 in government funding to help tackle rough sleeping in the city. The funding was announced as the government hosted a Rough Sleeping Summit in Downing Street on 26 October, pushing for further action to support people to get off the streets for good.
Behind every rough-sleeping statistic is a person who deserves safety, dignity and a route back into a stable home. Here in Hull we see the pressures every week — from the city centre to the estates around University Ward — and this money must reach frontline outreach, emergency accommodation and long-term housing support quickly.
I will be watching how Hull City Council spends this funding, and I will keep making the case for the services that prevent people ending up on the streets in the first place: mental health support, addiction services and genuinely affordable homes.
What do you think? If rough sleeping or housing is a concern where you live, send me a message — I want to hear about it.
