Hull’s two Labour MPs have written to the train companies serving our city, urging them to invest in battery-electric trains the next time they renew their fleets.

Diana Johnson (Hull North & Cottingham) and Emma Hardy (Hull West & Haltemprice) contacted First Hull Trains and Northern Trains after TransPennine Express’s own move towards cleaner rolling stock, arguing that Hull should not be left behind with ageing diesel trains.

This is exactly the kind of quiet, practical work that makes a difference: cleaner air around our stations, quieter journeys for people living near the lines, and a better case for the rail investment Hull has needed for years.

As someone who campaigns for a fairer, greener Hull, I fully back their call — and I would like to see local voices included when these decisions are made.
