The leaders of the political groups on Hull City Council have written to the Prime Minister to request urgent talks over the funding allocated to the council. Late changes to the government’s Fair Funding 2.0 formula mean the city expects to receive around £10 million less than it had planned for.

This is a cross-party letter, and rightly so — funding for Hull is bigger than party politics. A £10 million gap puts real pressure on the services we all rely on: adult social care, road repairs, bin collections and support for vulnerable children.

Labour has always stood for properly funded local services, and I support any effort that gets Hull a fairer deal. But residents deserve honesty too: whatever formula Whitehall settles on, our council must spend every pound wisely and listen to the communities it serves.

I will keep following this closely and sharing what it means for University Ward and the wider city.
